Japan Karate Academy Shitokai

Building confidence, discipline & resilience in children aged 6-60

Japan Karate Academy Shitokai is a not-for-profit karate and martial arts dojo in North Brisbane, serving the North Lakes area. We teach Shitoryu karate to a diverse range of students from ages 6 to 60. Our club has a welcoming, supportive culture where every member is valued for who they are and what they bring.

Many of our students begin karate to develop confidence, resilience, and discipline. Others join karate to learn self-defence skills and increase fitness. At some point all students engage in the study and practice of self-control, emotional mastery and begin to develop a strong karateka mindset. Students have the option to elect into a competition pathway and we have junior and senior karateka who have represented Queensland and Australia, competing both nationally and internationally.

Karate is not a sport, it is a way of life with no finish line. There is always more to learn, more to understand, more personal growth and depth of character to seek. The careful and compassionate instruction provided by our dedicated Tina Sensei will ensure you are fully supported in your journey.
